Guided Bible Reading

Three weeks ago I signed up to be a part of Lectio: Guided Bible Reading. I considered blogging about it immediately, just in case others wanted to sign up, but since I had not used it before, I thought I should check it out first. I have enjoyed it, so here is the rundown.

The Lectio (Reading) is a weekly podcast/blog put together by the Center for Biblical and Theological Education at Seattle Pacific University. This semester we are reading through the book of Joshua. Once a week they send me an email letting me know that a new lecture is available. I can either read lecture or listen to it as a podcast (each podcast is about 15 minutes). In order to stay “on track” I only have to read a few chapters each week, so if one is looking to read through the Bible in a year, this is not the program to participate in, nor can it take the place of regular Bible reading and devotional time. On the positive side, the slow pace allows the lecturer to go into great depth and breadth. For example, even though the text may be Joshua 1, I will also hear about the Abrahamic Covenant and Jesus.

As I said, I am enjoying this weekly reading, and since we are only at week three, and moving quite methodically, there is still time to jump into this semester’s reading if you choose.
