Take a mental leap along with me and imagine that these small rocks symbolize rocks everywhere –rocks along a trail, and rock that forms whole mountain ranges. As far as we can tell, these rocks are inanimate, they have no life in them at all.
When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the crowd acknowledged him as the Messiah. They praised him, saying, “Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” Then certain Pharisees demanded that Jesus rebuke the people and forbid them from speaking this essential truth. But Jesus basically said that such great a thing was happening to bless the whole earth, that if the ones who had been made in God’s own image remained silent, even the dead, lifeless rocks would cry out.
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, and God’s people have been praising Jesus for His amazing sacrifice of love ever since. Join me, right now, dear friends, in singing God’s praise, and keep the rocks silent for one more day.
