I have gotten to read some excellent books during my three years in seminary, but I am also looking forward to having some free time to choose what I will read. I have started building my After Seminary Reading List.
New Reading:
- Organix: Signs of Leadership in a Changing Church – by Bob Whitesel. I’ve wanted to read this since it came out, and have already done an overview of the principles.
- Bad Religion: How We Became a Nation of Heretics – by Ross Douthat. I heard an interview of Douthat on NPR, and thought this might be an interesting take on American and Christian culture.
- Sticky Faith: Everyday Ideas to Build Lasting Faith in Your Kids – by Kara E. Powell & Chap Clark
- The King Jesus Gospel: The Original Good News Revisited – by Scot McKnight
Rereading:
- Preparing for Change Reaction: How to Introduce Change in Your Church – by Bob Whitesel. This is one that I just want to make sure I have the principles down before my next phase of ministry.
Finish Reading:
- The Imitation of Christ – by Thomas à Kempis. I know. I know. Why haven’t I finished this book yet? I don’t know.
- Promises to Peter: Building a Bridge from Parent to Child – by Charlie Shedd.
Pleasure Reading:
- Erec and Enide – by Chrétien de Troyes. My wife gave me a nice hardbound copy for our anniversary. All I lack now is a copy of Perceval: The Story of the Grail to complete my set.
- H.P. Lovecraft The Complete Fiction.
I’ll have to find time for these in between multiple readings of Green Eggs & Ham and Animal Orchestra, and finally taking some time to write some books of my own.
