Call to Worship: Epiphany

I enjoy The Matrix movies. I remember watching the original movie release around Easter in 1999, and being pleasantly surprised at all the parallels between the stories of Jesus and Neo. Choi even says these words to Neo “Hallelujah. You’re my savior, man. My own personal Jesus Christ.”

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.” When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. Matthew 2:1-3

Characters in both stories essentially had one of two reactions to the coming of their respective saviors. Some, like Morpheus and the wise men, joyously anticipated the revelation of the promised one, while others, like Agent Smith or Herod, found themselves greatly disturbed. Sometimes I wonder, when Jesus reveals himself to us, when his light shines in our darkness, when we see his love ready to move in our lives, family, or community, how do respond?

When the Light of Jesus rises on you, what choice will you make?
